A HOTEL in Llandudno is being spotlighted on a popular television game show.

Tricia Watson and her daughter Jess welcome rivals to St Hilary Guest House in this week's Channel 4’s Four in a Bed. Filming was carried out in June 2019.

As part of the programme, which is on at 5pm every night, four B&B owners rate each other's properties and decide which of them offers the best value for money at the end of the week.

Tricia and Jess are seen greeting guests at the start of the week. The episodes see them go up against The Falcon Retreat in Godreaman; The Crown Inn in Grewelthorpe and In the Stix Glamping in Greetham, Rutland.

Speaking to the Pioneer about how they got involved, Tricia said: "The studio email B&B owners to ask them if they want to take part. David Adderson, my partner and co-owner of the B&B, didn't want to do it, so my daughter agreed to come on with me instead. She does help out.

"We are fans of the show.

"We did enjoy being part of it as a whole, but the schedule was relentless. Filming was from 7.30am up to 1am on one occasion, but usually finished about midnight.

"Because the filming day is so long, it is very tiring and can be quite stressful, as you have always got cameras on you. However, you do get to stay in three other places, as well as some lovely places we stayed in while travelling.

"You stay in a place overnight the night before you arrive at each contestants place.

"We did meet some very nice people on the show and the group got on quite well on the whole.

"There were some we didn't get on so well with, and some we are still in touch with, but that's the same in all walks of life," Tricia added.

Tricia, who has been coming to Llandudno for holidays since she was about five years old, describes the family B&B as a 'dream come true'.

The build is a Victorian town house, next to the sea.

"My mum was evacuated to Penmaenmawr during the war and so continued to bring us on holidays to the North Wales coast for many years," Tricia said.

"We have only been here at the St Hilary since May 2018.

"It was a pity the weather was so bad at the time of filming. Indeed, the whole two weeks of filming was quite badly affected by the weather.

"As we have only been here a short time it was a great opportunity to promote the business, which was the main reason for going on the programme.

"I feel we did do a good job of this, showing our B&B and ourselves in the best light.

"We have had some very positive feedback from some of our loyal customers as well as some potential new ones. Some people have called just to let us know they think we did well.

"We did initially think the lockdown would have a negative impact on the bookings received as a result, but the positive side is that there are more people at home watching the programme, so bookings may follow."

The B&B is offering free cancellations to anyone who booked during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Tricia said: "We are also offering a free bottle of wine to all those who book for later dates when things return to normal, if they let us know when they book that they saw us on the programme."

Tricia's daughter Jess has a vision impairment, but she says it does not hold her back.

In the episode she explains that working at the B&B has impacted her life 'very positively' and has helped her grow in confidence.
