A HOSPICE has raised an incredible £20,000 through sales of their ingenious Abbey Road goat t-shirts.

Following global coverage of mountain goats taking over the deserted streets of Llandudno, St David's Hospice created t-shirts which feature a design inspired by the Beatles’ album cover Abbey Road.

The products - which have been purchased by customers from Australia, New Zealand, California and Canada as well as UK - have raised much needed funds for the hospice, based on Abbey Road in Llandudno; due to Covid-19, the charity had to close 26 charity shops and cancel major fundraising events, meaning 90 per cent of their income has dried up.

More than 1,500 have been sold. The team is now working hard to get the t-shirts ready to ship out and teased the reception at the hospice looks like a t-shirt factory!

Margaret Hollings, head of fundraising, marketing and communications at the hospice, said: "We have been totally overwhelmed by the way people have responded to Great Orme Goat t-shirts. We are so appreciative of the support we have been given in these most challenging times.

“The Llandudno goats have really captured the nation’s hearts in their cheeky antics of late and to think that 1,500 people - so far - will be walking around in these t-shirts dedicated to their cheekiness through Covid-19 really does put a positive spin on the current situation in Britain and beyond”.

St David's Hospice provides respite and end of life care to adult patients living with life limiting illnesses across Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey.

The £20,000 raised will go a long way to recovering some of the hospices' losses through the current pandemic.

Earlier in the month, callous thieves trashed the hospice's donation centre in Mochdre and stole clothes, electrical goods, and jewellery.

Margaret added: "The income from the t-shirt sales is quite remarkable and the orders still pouring in.

"This is keeping much needed cash in the bank to go towards paying for our wonderful nurses who come in day to day to face the front line and ensure that patients living with life limiting illnesses in our local communities can still receive the care they so need and deserve at the end of life."

St David’s Hospice will launch a ‘Recovery Fund’ in the coming weeks, with the aim of raising the £1 million pounds it will take to recover from financial losses associated with Covid-19 by the end of 2020.
