A MOCHDRE based teddy bear company has revealed it made a 'killing' out of the popular cult psychological drama Killing Eve.

Be My Bear, located at Mochdre Business Park, supplied hundreds of bears and outfits to Sid Gentle Films Ltd, the producers of the show, during the filming of scenes in London last year.

Their bulldogs and bears sporting Union Jack t-shirts were featured in the opening episode but in episode three, a whole scene is given over to their cuddly celebrities.

Assassin Villanelle visits their 'shop', stuffed full of Be My Bear teddies and friends, and records a message for her adversary Eve which she then places into one of the pink teddies and delivers to Eve’s home in the latest twist in their cat and mouse relationship.

Pippa Thomas, director at Be My Bear Ltd, said the company were approached by the production company last year and had to sign a non-disclosure agreement before they were cleared to supply them with the volume order.

“ I am a huge fan of Killing Eve so you can imagine how thrilled I was to be approached,” Pippa said.

“We had no idea how the bears and animals would feature in the narrative, so we were on edge waiting for their first appearance and hoping above hope that Villanelle would be kind to them.

“We had to keep our contract secret for nine months which was hard as so many of our family and friends are followers but now we can shout about it."

Killing Eve fans from across the globe - including America, Australia and France - have placed orders for the pink angel bear with princess outfit that Villanelle chose in the scene to give as a gift to former MI5 operative Eve.

"The series has a cult following and has spawned so many fan clubs as well as podcasts and online forums that any information about products and props travels fast, and this is just the beginning,” added Pippa.

“We are expecting a large number of individual orders on the back of this."

Be My Bear specialise in the make a bear concept and have a direct retail site as well as a wholesale outlet supplying stuffing machines, bears, clothes and accessories to holiday parks, hotels, party companies and retail outlets.

The company, which has won award for their products, has been hard hit by the pandemic.

Pippa said: "We have stayed open following strict public health guidelines and with a skeleton staff operating."

"We are fortunate as an e-commerce company that we have an online retail shop and the Killing eve publicity has given this part of the business a much needed boost.

"We hope that some of the wholesale outlets we supply will start to return to some form of trade albeit on a much reduced level soon.

“Some of our pregnancy scanning clinics who buy our heartbeat bears to record the baby’s heart in the womb are already back at work and placing orders with us."
