MORE than 100 painted-rocks have been placed under a rainbow outside Llandudno’s Ysbyty Enfys - thanks to 11-year-old Lexi Arundel.

Lexi, a pupil Ysgol Craig Y Don, inspired the movement - of other youngsters putting rocks under the rainbow - after placing the first stone on April 25.

In the hope that other children would follow suit, Lexi’s family posted what she had done on social media.

Mum Cheryl Gregory said there are now ‘too many stones to count’ and supporters have named the vibrant display #lexisrainbow on Facebook.

Lexi with her 'Thank You NHS' painted rock

Cheryl, who has partner Chris Arundel, said: “Myself, Lexi’s grandmother and her auntie all work for the NHS in Llandudno hospital, so she has very strong feelings about supporting the NHS.

“Since quarantine and being off school, Lexi has been looking at ways to show her support and craft is her favourite thing to do.

“She decided to paint the rocks and place one under the rainbow hoping all the local children would support her.

“We advertised on social media saying her aim was to get to 100 rocks.

“When we visited in May, this had truly been achieved. The amount is unbelievable”

Cheryl has worked in Llandudno Hospital for four years.

She is currently shielding due to health issues, but Lexi's grandmother and auntie have continued to work on the frontline.

"Lexi is very proud of them, along with all NHS workers," Cheryl added.

"Lexi is very much into arts and craft and has always joined in with the painting of rocks.

North Wales Pioneer:

Lexi and her family are delighted by the response

"When she painted an NHS stone thanking all workers, I thought it would look nice in my garden but Lexi had other ideas!

"Her pops is a duty manager at Venue Cymru and after going for a walk on the sea front, she saw the rainbow and asked him if she could place a rock under it. Of course he said yes and then she said she would like all the local children to join in and support the NHS.

"Her aim was to get 100 rocks. We would go pass every few days and she started to count them all, but now there are too many.

"Lexi is a lovely, thoughtful young girl who always thinks of others.

"She joins in every Thursday evening at 8pm to clap for the NHS.

"She hopes the rocks continue during this pandemic. It makes her so happy to go there and see them all."

Trevor Hubbard, director of nursing for the central area of BCUHB, said: “We’d like to thank Lexi for finding such a creative way to show her support for our staff and other key workers as we tackle the unprecedented challenge of Covid-19.”
