CLOGAU Gold has opened a voluntary release scheme for redundancies and it conducts a review of its business.

Clogau, a second generation family business which has its head office in Bodelwyddan, marked its 30th anniversary last year.

From late March, Clogau - which has its head office in Bodelwyddan - Furloughed team members.

The company admitted the last few months had been a difficult time for sales and measures were now being taken to ensure the future of the business.

Danny Evans, finance director at Clogau Gold, said: "Clogau is a proud, local business that has historically relied on independent retail and our own high street branches to reach our customers.

"During recent months of lockdown, it’s been a difficult time for shop sales, and whilst we have responded quickly by developing and growing our online presence, both with our retailers and directly to our customers, it’s been necessary to conduct a review of the business on the whole, in order to ensure our long term future.

"Part of this review includes headcount of course, and, in consultation with our legal team we have decided to offer a programme of voluntary release, enabling those employees who wish to leave to do so with an enhanced package. We’re hopeful that this will avoid any need for compulsory redundancies.

"The measures we take now will enable Clogau to emerge from this unprecedented time in a strong position for growth and to remain a significant employer in the local area."

To mark its anniversary milestone, Clogau Gold unveiled a jewellery collection in 2019. This was a 1854 gold blend - a unique metal with a pale rose yellow tone.

1854 is itself a milestone in the brand’s history; gold was discovered for the first time at the St David’s mine in Dolgellau that year, which led to it becoming the richest and most productive gold mine in the country.

On Wednesday, June 24, Clogau's Cardiff, Bridgend, Swansea, Carmarthen, Llandudno and Broughton stores re-opened.

The Bangor store re-opened on Thursday, June 25.
