SHOPPERS are bringing a positive atmosphere as they return to Wrexham town centre, a business leader has said.

Non-essential shops in Wales were allowed to reopen on June 22 - provided they could take "all reasonable measures" to keep to the two-metre distancing rule.

Ruth Rees, chair of Wrexham Business Group CIC and co-owner of Martin Rees Jewellers, said since the shops began to reopen she has been pleased at the number of people turning out to support them.

She said: "We ourselves have definitely been busy enough and there has been more footfall that I thought there would be.

"It's not wall to wall but there does seem to be an appetite to come back to town and shop.

"I am getting positive feedback from fellow businesses that have already opened and many others are excited to open soon.

"There is a really positive atmosphere, on the whole.

"It's early days yet, but I think with a bit of luck we will come through this leaner and stronger."

Speaking of the ongoing measures to tackle the spread of coronavirus, she added: "I feel like I saw more people wearing masks on Monday than I have during other weeks.

"We are using the masks as well as visors to keep people safe.

"I have not seen too much evidence of people neglecting their social distancing. "I think most people are moderately distancing and making an effort to follow the guidelines."

Ty Pawb reopened and welcomed all of its traders back on Wednesday.

The centre's market hall and food court is now open 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday, with selected Food Court traders offering a takeaway service until 6pm

Its car park is now open too and parking is free until further notice.
