A SIX-year-old girl will be undertaking a 18.6 mile cycling challenge to thank a hospice for caring for her Nana.

Millie Jones, of Colwyn Bay, will cycle the coastal path from Colwyn Bay to Rhyl and back on Friday, August 28 to raise funds for St David’s Hospice.

Millie, who will be accompanied by family, is already in training for her big day.

She has had a new bike, an early and much welcomed birthday present, and through her fundraising page has already raised £760.

Millie, who will start Ysgol Iau Hen Golwyn in September, said: “I have got a lot of training to do to be able to do nearly 20 miles.

“I am doing this because my Nana Janet [Jones] has got cancer and St David’s Hospice have helped my Nana Janet feel better by doing special treatments for her.

“They still look after her and they do an amazing job.

“I want my Nana to feel better by me doing this, because I know it will make her happy and she will be proud of me.

“I will do lots of exercise for it and I will not let her down. I am going to do this. I love my Nana lots. Hopefully, the money I raise will let Nana and other special people have treatments and care that makes them feel better.”

Janet, who is married to Glyn, has ovarian cancer.

Millie's dad Daniel, who is married to Sarah, said: "She has already done 17-and-a-half miles to Prestatyn.

"For her birthday we got her a bike which she has had early [Millie's birthday is August 3].

"It has got gears and it will make it easier for her to ride up hill.

"She is feeling good about the challenge, although a bit apprehensive. Myself and Sarah will join her on the day as well as Grandy, which is Janet's husband, and others. She's got a lot of support."
