AN ENTERPRISING girl has organised a virtual dog show to help fund her school trip of a lifetime to Africa.

Libby Cole, 14, of Wrexham, needs to raise £4,000 to fund a trip to Tanzania, where she will take part in conservation work as well as learning about the culture there.

The Ysgol Clywedog pupil has been extremely motivated, already raising £1,000 through a reading seven books in seven days challenge, car boot sales, and selling her homemade craft items.

But the coronavirus pandemic means fundraising activities are limited.

Her mum, Lesley: "We hosted a dog show last year in Bellvue Park but with all the coronavirus restrictions we decided to do it online this time. People are emailing pictures of their dogs, it can be as many pictures as they want in the different categories, and making a payment through PayPal for £2 per dog.

"We've opened it to everyone in the UK, some of my friends who don't live in Wrexham wanted to take part. For the local winners we will take the rosettes to them, but for those further away we will post the rosettes."

Lesley added: "Libby is going o n a school trip to Tanzania next summer. She will be out there for four weeks, working with Camps International.

"While they are out there they will be doing community and conservation work, helping to build schools and houses, and learning local languages and cultures."
