WREXHAM’s Member of the Senedd assures community that the local situation with coronavirus spiking will continue to be monitored.

The rise of coronavirus infections in Wrexham over the last few days has been a cause of concern for many residents.

Local MS Lesley Griffiths has remained in close contact with the relevant authorities and has received updates in recent days relating to the rise in cases across the Wrexham area.

Ms Griffiths said: “Towards the end of last week, the initial indications suggested the virus was under control and the latest information has provided further encouragement.

“The mobile testing units set up in Caia Park and Hightown have helped the relevant bodies gather greater insight. In total, 1,418 tests were taken and 11 returned positive.”

The MS says that she understands this data means less than one per cent of test subjects were positive and indicates transmission is “significantly lower than first thought”.

She continued: “I understand there have been no new cases at Rowan Foods for almost two weeks and the proactive prevention measures introduced by the Outbreak Control Team at the Maelor Hospital have helped stabilise transmission rates.

“Although the picture appears to be improving and the signs and latest statistics are reassuring, it does not mean the authorities will relax. The situation in Wrexham will continue to be monitored extremely closely.

“Individuals must continue to play their part and act responsibly. Visitors to the Maelor must wear a face covering and the Health Board is urging people to only visit if absolutely necessary. We must all continue to observe social distancing guidelines, maintain good hand hygiene and if you have symptoms, no matter how mild, you must get a test and self-isolate.

“Every one of us has a role to play and we must continue to do all we can to keep Wrexham safe."
