THE ultimate tour guide to no fewer than 360 miles of North West Wales’ landscape and attractions has been relaunched in a bid to attract post-lockdown holidaymakers to the region.

An interactive digital tourist route, Snowdonia 360 was mapped out with a vision to emulate other highly successful routes such as the Scottish Highlands' epic North Coast 500 road trip which attracts tens of thousands of people annually.

It includes adventure activities such as Adventure Parc Snowdonia and the Sygun Copper Mine, the scenic transport of the Cambrian Line Railway, as well as heritage and culture trips, gardens and parks, and museums and galleries.

The digital map was first launched in February, just weeks before coronavirus lockdown restrictions put the brakes on Welsh tourism, however it is hoped that a boom in ‘staycation’ holidays amid the uncertainty of travelling abroad could make the project a bigger success this time around.

“We see this as a great opportunity for Snowdonia 360 which will help visitors plan and manage almost every aspect of their journey,” said Jonathan Williams-Ellis, chair of tourism consortium Attractions of Snowdonia which has signed up 29 companies in the region.

“We attracted huge interest upon launch, however, paused all activity in line with national guidelines. With mixed messaging and changing directives for foreign travel on an almost daily basis, many tourists are choosing to stay within the UK for their annual holiday.

“Snowdonia 360 brings something entirely different to those looking to visit and experience North Wales in their own unique way.”

Mr Williams-Ellis said the project followed long-term research of successful touring models around the globe, including the world-famous Route 66 in the United States.

Anyone can visit www.snowdonia360.com to create their own itinerary and are encouraged to share their route and experiences on the website’s online sharing platform.

It hopes to attract groups ranging from families to couples, single travellers, cyclists, caravan enthusiasts, adventure seekers, food lovers, historical aficionados and more.

A positive outcome of the coronavirus lockdown is that tourist attractions across North West Wales are “keen to pull together” to promote the region, which will in turn benefit their businesses.

“Pre-lockdown, we invested considerable time and effort researching and understanding other successful global touring models and created a unique circular route,” Mr Williams-Ellis added.

“We believe that this brilliant tool will inspire and drive tourism and we’re keen to continue to generate awareness of Snowdonia 360 regionally, nationally and intentionally.”
