A WHEELCHAIR race took place along the Pier on Saturday to raise funds for the RAF.
The Spitfire 10k event saw sporting wheelchair users depart from Old Colwyn Bay pier to the Cenotaph near Llandudno Pier for an impressive three and a half hours. They were followed by walkers including organisers North Wales Amateur Radio Group (NWARG), the RAF Museum Trust and family members.
NWARG president David Morgan and vice chairman Tony Mottram joined in to assist in marshalling and radio communications on the route.
It was a great achievement for the wheelchair users, including NWARG’s disabled member John Pritchard, from Bangor, and his friend David Garnet, from Mold. They led the pack from the start and had a slight rest before they had the enormous task of getting up Penrhyn Hill.
They managed to ascent it safely and it was all downhill from there to the finish on Llandudno Promenade, where they were cheered in support as they crossed the line.
