A THEATRE that attracts thousands of visitors from across Conwy and Denbighshire will remain closed until December 1.

Venue Cymru in Llandudno, which has been transformed into a new field hospital - Ysbyty Enfys -closed its doors on March 16.

The last production before Lock Down at Venue was We Will Rock You - a sell out show. Acts lined up for this year included West End hits, music acts, World class Opera and more.

The venue contributes £33.5m to the wider local economy and is a vital asset to North Wales tourism.

Richard Jones, marketing manager for Venue Cymru, said: “We’ve been proud to work with the health board, and that our building can be used for such a vital purpose.

"Although very few of our venue staff are now on site, many colleagues are now based from home and working hard behind the scenes to plan for business recovery and the eventual reopening of Venue Cymru. Colleagues have also been re-deployed to help with other services run by the local authority which have been set up to offer essential community support during the pandemic.

“We’ve been liaising closely with production companies and promoters for all affected and upcoming shows and communicating as quickly as we can with ticket holders. Our Conference and Events business too are rescheduling and relocating wherever possible.

"We’ve moved our Young creatives programmes online as part of our digital programme. One digital initiative run by Venue Cymru was a 10 week creative home schooling programme called YsCŴL.

"Each week we offered virtual lessons in movement, visual arts and ‘Ask an Industry Pro’, Aardman animators, professional musicians, dancers and even a mathematician helped make home schooling fun.

"We’re now looking at ways we can stream content to our customers, and other ways to keep the culture they’re sure to be missing in their lives."

Theatr Colwyn has re-opened for film screenings.

There is no news from the government about when live performances can be staged in Venue Cymru or Theatr Colwyn.
