LLANDUDNO’s vandalised Mad Hatter statue is to be cleaned up.

The statue, located on the Promenade, was daubed with white paint last week end.

A spokesperson for tourist team of Conwy County Borough Council said: “It’s sad and disappointing that someone would damage this much loved statue. We will be arranging repairs.”

The Mad Hatter is one of a number of statues around the town of characters from Lewis Carroll’s books: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Alice Through the looking Glass. The statues are: the White Rabbit, the Queen of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat, Tweedledum and Tweedledee and Alice.

They celebrate Llandudno’s links with Lewis Carroll, who is said to have spent time in the resort with friends.

Cllr Louise Emery said: “This is mindless vandalism which causes distress for the residents and visitors. It simply makes no sense.”
