THIS year's Llandudno Christmas parade has been cancelled.

Llandudno Town Council has reluctantly taken the decision to cancel this year’s event.

The parade was earmarked for December 5.

Cllr Antony Bertola, chairman of the Christmas Parade Sub Committee, said: “During the last six months we have all felt the impact of Covid 19 and how it has affected all our lifestyles and routines. We have all had to re-adjust our way of living, working and socialising. Llandudno Town Council is no exception.

"We have proudly organized the annual Christmas parade over many successful years with great enthusiasm from the town council and indeed from the public to the acts involved who provide all the professional entertainment.

"We have always received great feedback from residents and indeed the tourists who visit our town.

"Sadly, this year with so many insurmountable health and safety issues and regulations the council has decided to cancel this year’s parade.

"We have worked closely with various partners and agencies and consulted with the police regarding health and safety”.

Cllr Angela O’Grady, mayor of Llandudno, said: “It is with a heavy heart that the town council has had to cancel this year’s Christmas Parade.

"Let’s hope this virus is beaten soon and we can all come together once again to enjoy community events."

The council has apologised for the disappointment this decision will cause.

Work will begin 'as soon as possible' to see if the parade can be organised for 2021.

Last year, Father and Mother Christmas gave their reindeers a rest arriving by train for the 'magical' parade in Llandudno.

The parade proceeded from the railway station, up Vaughan Street, to Mostyn Street, into Lloyd Street, down Madoc Street, Augusta Street and back to the station.
