A PROJECT supporting struggling families with Christmas gifts for children is gearing up for its annual appeal.

North Wales Superkids is a Flintshire based charity, aiming to support children throughout the whole of North Wales.

Run completely by volunteers, Superkids was founded by Margaret Williams MBE, from Flint.

The organisation has four main projects - each offering something different to give underprivileged children experiences they might never get the opportunity to otherwise have.

For the past two years The Pioneer’s sister newspaper The Leader has given its support to this amazing charity and this year, it will be doing the same again.

Group Editor Susan Perry said:” Superkids provides a vital service to families right across North Wales.

“These are unprecedented times we are living in but I would ask readers to see if they can help Superkids give children the Christmas every child deserves.”

A spokesman for the charity said: “As we are approaching the festive season, many of us will be looking forward to an abundance of gifts under the tree, and many happy times being spent with our families.

“Unfortunately for many children throughout North Wales, Christmas might be something they can only dream of.

“Thanks to Superkids, and the generosity of the general public, we can make Christmas happen for these children.

“Our Toybox Appeal will soon be underway, and now more than ever, North Wales Superkids need your help.

“We have specific guidelines, and referrals are made by organisations or officials who are in direct contact with the families and can identify the need for each Child.

“Over the years, the need for our services has grown and grown, and Christmas 2019 saw us distribute 1616 sacks of gifts.

“We support families with children from babies, through to 18 years, and also care leavers

and young vulnerable adults aged 18-25.”

The charity is now appealing to the public to help bring Christmas to what it “can only imagine is going to be a larger number of Children than ever”.

“This year has been a very difficult time for many families,” The spokesman continued.

“For lots of reasons they will struggle more than ever to provide even a basic Christmas for their Children.

“Superkids have also felt the impact of Covid, as restrictions have meant that we have been unable to attend any fundraising events, get out to raise awareness, and unfortunately are now having to cancel our annual Christmas Fayre.

“But we must carry on.

“If you would like to help bring Christmas to underprivileged children, here are the ways you can help.“You could donate a new toy to one of our collection points (listed below).

“All toys and gifts must be brand new and not gift wrapped.

“Or if you are unable to physically donate a toy, but would still like to help, You could make a donation through our Paypal - northwalessuperkids@gmail.com”
