REMEMBRANCE Day events in Colwyn Bay and Llandudno will not be held this year because of Covid 19 restrictions.

These decisions follow a similar one by Conwy Town Council not to hold the commemoration event.

A spokesperson for Colwyn Bay Town Council said: “Given the current restrictions and to protect the most vulnerable, we will be moving to an online and local radio broadcast service of Remembrance. This will replace the usual services of Remembrance and parades in Colwyn Bay and Old Colwyn. We encourage our residents to take part in acts of Remembrance in their own homes, this year.”

Llandudno’s official Remembrance Sunday parade and services at the War Memorial and Holy Trinity Church, has been cancelled due to the many Covid 19 restrictions.

Mayor of Llandudno Councillor Angela O’Grady said: “We recognise the importance of this event but urge residents not to gather in large groups for their own safety. I will of course be laying a wreath on the day on behalf of the townspeople.

“It is of course vitally important we remember those who have lost their lives serving their country and, recognise all those who continue to serve so diligently.”

Chairman of Llandudno Town Council’s Civic committee Cllr Francis Davies said: “It is extremely disappointing we find ourselves in this position, however, we must think of the safety of the public. It is of course vitally important that we remember those who have lost their lives serving their country and, recognise all those who continue to serve so diligently. “Throughout this pandemic, the Royal British Legion has and will continue, to raise money for the Poppy Appeal, therefore we ask the public to support the appeal”.
