THIS beautiful baby margay is the latest baby to be born at the Welsh Mountain Zoo.

The tiny baby is yet to be sexed and named. He or she, however, can be seen playing and exploring their surroundings under the watchful eye of mum.

Kim Wood, director of Living Collections of the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay, said: “This is a wonderful event for the zoo, at a time when there are very few positive stories to share.

“We have a rich history in the breeding of margays, and have welcomed several baby’s in recent years.

"Our latest arrival is adorable and is developing well, being cared for by mum.”

Native to Central and South America, the margay is a small wild cat .

The species can be found in a forest habitat and is considered a solitary and nocturnal species.

Margays are hunted illegally for the wildlife trade, which has led to a considerable population decrease by the 1990’s. In addition to this, deforestation has led to a loss of the Margays habitat, and the species has been listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List since 2008.
