VICTORIA Derbyshire says she will be reminding herself that she has ‘experienced much worse’ in her personal life than in any trial she may face on I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here.

The BBC journalist, newsreader and broadcaster was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and underwent a mastectomy, as well as chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

All the while, she continued to keep Twitter followers up to date with her journey and carried on presenting her current affairs programme on BBC as often as possible during her treatment.

The 52-year-old has now signed up for the 20th edition of I’m a Celeb, which will take place at Abergele’s Gwrych Castle.

Speaking to Victoria before she entered the castle on Sunday, the Rhyl Journal asked whether what she’s been through already in her personal life, would make her even more equipped to take on what the castle has to throw her way.

Victoria replied: “I won’t know what I’m like with the trials and environment until I get there obviously but going through cancer treatment was quite a big deal and some of it was pretty painful.

“So, I try and tell myself ‘with what I went through a few years ago, what I’m about to through cannot, of course, be anything like that. So I’ll just have to have a word with myself if there’s spiders crawling over me, that I have experienced much worse and I’ve got to remember that.”

Asked about which of the people she has interviewed during a career in journalism, spanning more than 30 years, she would most like to see join her in the castle, Victoria said: “If I could have anyone in the world, I’m going to say Harry and Megan

“Harry’s been in the military, so I’d imagine he would be pretty hardy and have incredible survival skills. Megan seems like a very strong person so I reckon she’d probably be alright as well.”

Gwrych Castle is said to be a haunted site, with several paranormal incidents having been reported there over the years.

Asked about whether she had done some research into the venue which will be her new home for potentially three weeks, Victoria said: “I’ll be honest, I did do a bit of research and read about, I think it was a Countess, who is supposedly haunting the place.

“I don’t believe in ghosts but I’m happy to be proved wrong while we’re in there. But, as a journalist I like facts and so I’d like to see evidence that it actually is haunted. But it makes it exciting and makes it fun doesn’t it?”
