POLICE in Wrexham have begun an operation to tackle town centre crime over the festive period.

Operation Santa will see officers in the town taking proactive and targeted action in the town over coming weeks.

It is an initiative designed to provide public reassurance and prevent criminal activity in the lead up to Christmas.

Inspector Victor Powell said: "This is a policing operation that we run through December to Christmas Eve and it involves a really visible presence.

"It will involve proactive engagement to deter acquisitive crime and anti-social behaviour, then reactive work to nip anything which occurs in the bud.

"We will be making sure our patrols are adapted so our teams can be in the right places at the right times around the town centre and retail areas."

Insp Powell said during Operation Santa his officers will also continue to educate, explain, encourage people to follow the latest covid-19 rules, and enforce them if they are not followed (a strategy referred to as the four E's).
