A COLWYN BAY councillor has backed a dispersal order placed on the town, adding that residents ‘need to feel safe’ at night.

Cllr Abdul Khan, who represents Glyn ward constituents, has thanked police for their ‘swift action’.

On Sunday, North Wales Police placed a dispersal order on Colwyn Bay, just a month after another, after officers dealt with a ‘large number’ of anti-social behaviour incidents in the previous week.

It stood between Sunday and Tuesday evening and affected several areas including the Promenade.

Plaid Cymru councillor Cllr Khan said: “I am aware NWP made use of the Dispersal Powers, in response to anti social behaviour by youths in our town centre. I am fully supportive of the rapid response by Police, nobody has any right to cause harassment, alarm and distress to members of the public.

“Our night life economy in Colwyn Bay is growing and Public needs to feel safe going round at night. I would like to thank the police for their swift action.”

Talking about the latest dispersal order for Colwyn Bay, Insp Claire Shiland of North Wales Police, said: “Officers carried out patrols in the area and offered words of advice which has achieved the desired results as no notices have been issued and no arrests have been made.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and will be taking a firm approach where antisocial behaviour and disorder is reported in the area.”
