Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is calling for more covered tennis courts in North Wales after visiting the excellent indoor tennis facilities in Colwyn Bay.
He visited the James Alexander Barr Tennis Centre in Eirias Park to meet with Simon Johnson Chief Executive of Tennis Wales and the centre manager Shaun Thompson.
There has been a surge in the take up of tennis during the pandemic, yet there are only six indoor tennis courts of the type in Colwyn Bay across Wales and Darren is therefore calling for more.
He said: “I am pleased that so many people in the area are being active and engaging in sport, it is just a shame that facilities like those in Colwyn Bay are so limited in Wales.
“Covered tennis courts are really important, particularly during the winter months, as they allow people to play and develop their skills in poor weather and until later in the evening on dark nights due to lighting.
“Tennis is a wonderful intergenerational sport so it’s vital that more indoor facilities like those in Eirias Park are available in the future. They would help us to train the next generation of tennis aces as well as helping people to maintain an active lifestyle all year round.”
