A CHEMIST that dispenses more than 18,000 items per month has been sold.

Swettenham Chemists is housed within a single-storey, brick-built extension of the main Craig Y Don Medical Centre in Llandudno.

It has been purchased by Camella Healthcare Limited, a small group of Independent NHS Community Pharmacies operating from three sites along the North Wales coast.

The pharmacy was previously owned by Ian and Dawn Swettenham. The couple own and operate six pharmacies around the UK.

Mrs Swettenham said: “We own and operate six pharmacies around the UK, with Swettenham Chemists being the only one in Wales. We purchased the pharmacy in 1999 and, in 2005, relocated it to its current site in the Craig Y Don Medical Centre, where it has found great success. We’ve really enjoyed serving the Llandudno community for the last 21 years, but decided it was time to sell the branch to release more time to concentrate on our businesses closer to home in Chester.

“We’d like to wish everyone at Camella Healthcare Limited all the very best with their new acquisition, and hope they enjoy running this business as much as we have over the years.”

Jon Booth, associate director at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, said: “Having secured a suitable offer for Swettenham Chemists virtually the day before the first lockdown, it is great to finally get this sale over the line.

"Our clients, Dawn and Ian, and their team have worked incredibly hard to keep the business performing at its usual high standards and the new owners are acquiring an excellent business which will be a great addition to their existing estate both in terms of the geography and the high performance.

"We wish them every success.”

The chemists was sold at an undisclosed price.
