A PERSON has been taken to hospital after a car hit a fence before leaving the road on the A55 near Llanddulas.

North Wales Police, Welsh Ambulance Service and Wales Air Ambulance were called to the incident between Llanddulas to Old Colwyn just before 2pm on Tuesday.

The dual carriageway was shut in both directions following the incident and an air ambulance landed at the scene.

A person was taken by road to Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool.

"We were called at 1.46pm to reports of a single vehicle road traffic accident on the A55 westbound at Llanddulas," a Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said.

"We sent one rapid response car with advanced paramedic practitioner, one urgent care services doctor, the Wales Air Ambulance and one emergency ambulance.

One patient was taken to Aintree University Hospital, Liverpool by road."

A police spokesperson said: "A road closure is currently in place in both directions on the A55 Llanddulas, Junction 22 to Junction 23.

"Officers are currently dealing with a road traffic collision.

"Please avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible."

The Welsh Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.

Traffic Wales North and Mid tweeted: "Heavy congestion in the area.

"Please avoid area while emergency services deal with the incident."
