MARGET Howatson, a year seven pupil at Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy, has won Aberconwy MP Robin Millar’s Christmas card competition.

The competition was open to all schools in Conwy and its aim was to give the opportunity for entrants to draw, paint, be creative and make a card design that illustrates what Christmas is all about.

Robin said: "For millions of people over thousands of years, around the world, the Christian message at Christmas, of 'peace on earth and goodwill to all' has brought hope.

“Marget has captured that message in her imaginative bright and cheerful card which sums up exactly where we as a nation are at Christmas 2020. Her simple but joyful message of “love, hope and social distancing” is perfect.”

Marget’s card is being used as Robin’s Christmas card which will go to hundreds of businesses and individuals across the country, not just in Aberconwy. Prime Minister Boris Johnson is on Robin’s Christmas card list.

The other individual school year group winners are: Aoife Hughes, Year 7, Ysgol John Bright; James Senior, Ysgol Glan Conwy Year 4; Maisie Brown, Year 5, Ysgol Blessed William Davies; Giuseppe, Ysgol Blessed William Davies, Reception; Elin Hughes, Year 8, Ysgol Aberconwy and Lawrence Fitzgerald, Ysgol Blessed William Davies, Year 1.

Abi Evans-Smith, Beau Jarvis, Scarlett Doran, Melissa Holmes from Year 10 of Ysgol John Bright were highly commended for their imaginative poetic summary of 2020, nicely fitted into a Christmas tree design.

All individual year winners have their designs featured on the rear of Robin’s card and will be awarded their winners’ certificates by Robin.

Robin said he has been very touched by the work that has gone into this competition and all the submitted cards have been hung up in Robin’s offices to provide a fantastic decoration.

He added: “Judging this competition has been a great experience. Choosing the winners was a very tough job, I think the toughest one I have had since I was elected. Thank you all for taking part and I wish you, your families and those close to you a very Merry Christmas.”
