ORGANISERS of Rhos-on-Sea’s Tree of Lights have reported a record year despite Covid restrictions.

Organised by the Rhos on Sea Rotary Club the Tree of Lights this year's fundraiser for people to remember their loved ones has exceeded all previous years with a record amount donated.

The lights shines brightly on the Cayley Promenade to commemorate and remember our loved ones and has done so since the turn of the millennium when it was lit for the first time shining each Christmas in aid of our local St. David’s Hospice.

In that time it has raised a total of over £325,000 for the good work the Hospice does for our Communities and in the last 12 months alone it has enabled over £62,000 to be raised with every penny donated to St. David’s Hospice.

Rhos-on-Sea Rotary President Cliff Large said: "First and foremost I want to thank all who have supported us this year along with the help of the Pioneer.

"You have answered our call for help and just over £34,500 has been raised through the Tree of Lights so far this Christmas.

"This is the highest ever."

This year's fundraiser was launched during a socially distanced event and was filmed.

"In these difficult times, all Nations of the UK have felt the effects of Covid 19 but despite this you have responded with amazing generosity and I know St David’s Hospice are very grateful.

"They need our help more than ever to maintain their vital work.

"The opportunity to remember our loved ones is absolutely central to the Tree of Lights.

"That light you have dedicated will shine wherever you may be.

"Christmas is a time for joy and celebrations but it can also be a difficult time for many who suffer from their loss and hiraeth.

"Thank you again for your support.

"Compliments of the Season to all.”

The Tree of Lights will shine throughout December and contributions can be made directly by letter.
