A NEW road design will improve pedestrian safety at a busy crossing in Glan Conwy.

Plans to restore the width of the path leading to the A470 zebra crossing, as well as put signs and new road markings in place, are hoped to address concerns over visibility and awareness raised by residents.

The road design proposed by the Welsh Government includes relocated cycle hoops, ARAF/SLOW road markings on red mats, high friction surfacing and repainted zig-zag markings.

Temporary signs have been placed on the approaches to the crossing until the work is carried out.

Janet Finch-Saunders, MS for Aberconwy, said: “Following concerns raised about the safety of the zebra crossing in Glan Conwy, I was most pleased to make urgent representations to the Welsh Government which resulted in the introduction of temporary signage,” she said.

“Officials also pledged to undertake the development of a new design of the approach and junction surroundings so as to improve forward visibility to the crossing. I am most pleased that this design has now been completed.

“I remain ardently committed to finding sensible solutions to local traffic issues which benefit both road users and pedestrians.”
