A COLWYN BAY mum has proved that it is possible to keep fit and healthy as the coronavirus lockdown continues.

Becky Williams worried that the closure of Slimming World classes would impact her weight loss ambitions but she has continued to lose weight and hit her five stone milepost during lockdown.

“Back when this all began I panicked a bit. I couldn’t concentrate on my weight loss or eating as healthily as I did before because everything else seemed so up in the air,” she said.

“Having the knowledge and support of my local group really helped me through this challenging time – I felt as if I had the tools to cope.

“When Trace started our virtual group back in March, it was so good to keep in touch with everyone and I’ve not felt on my own with my weight-loss for one moment.

“I’ve always loved to create new recipes that both myself and my family loved and having my pugs to walk and keep up my activity also helped me each week.

“Every week I can’t wait to see everyone in our virtual group, we love sharing and supporting each other each week.

“I worried where I might be at the end of lockdown and that it might have impacted on my ability to reach my goals, but I’m really proud that throughout this challenging time of lockdown, I’m feeling better than I have in a long time.

“I know everyone’s circumstances will be different, yet these top tips helped me on my journey, which is more important than ever right now.”

Weight loss is always a big news story in January, and more so in 2021 because of the impact of Covid-19 and it’s links with being overweight.

Slimming World consultant in North Wales, Trace Webb, said: “More than half of adults have found it difficult to manage their weight during the Covid-19 lockdown, turning lives upside down, disrupting routines and making us feel more anxious than usual, as we worry about our own health and the health of loved ones.

“It’s really no surprise it’s had an effect on our choices around food, drink and activity! I know I’ve had my days when it’s felt really difficult to stay motivated and that’s completely ok, we’re all only human!

“When my members made healthy behaviour changes prior to lockdown, little did they know this would give them the tools to cope during this challenging time, supporting them to continue to successfully lose or maintain weight loss.

“The challenges we face are around the difficulty getting to the shops and getting hold of our usual foods, boredom and being at home is leading to increased snacking, higher stress and anxiety levels is leading to comfort eating and we are spending less time moving around and exercising which is leading so easily to weight gain.”
