BETSI Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) has become the first health board in Wales to administer more than 100,000 vaccines.

By the end of January, BCUHB had vaccinated care home residents, except at homes where there has been a recent outbreak of Covid-19 or patients are recovering from Covid-19.

Arrangements are in place to complete the outstanding care homes once it is safe to do so.

The health board say they are on track to vaccinate those in priority groups One to Four by the middle of the month.

Gill Harris, deputy chief executive of BCUHB, said: "Over the next fortnight, we are expecting nearly a further 100,000 vaccines.

"As of January 31, 96,370 people in North Wales had received their first Covid-19 Vaccination.

"Between January 25 and 31, 35,300 people were recorded as having received their first vaccination across North Wales. 91 per cent of Priority Groups One and Two have received their first vaccination dose compared to 63 per cent this time last week.

"While we recognise that some people will, and have chosen not to have the vaccination, our aim to ensure it is offered to all of those people in the eligible priority groups."

BCUHB have outlined their vaccination plans for the next fortnight.

Ms Harris said: "We expect to deliver nearly 100,000 vaccines over the coming fortnight - 39,100 Pfizer vaccines and 59,000 AstraZeneca vaccines.

"The majority of the first two priority groups are now completed and we are now inviting the over 75s, over 70s and the clinically extremely vulnerable for their vaccines. We are on target to complete Priority Groups 1-4 by mid-February, in line with the Welsh Government target."

A helpline has been set up for anyone over 80 to contact the health board if they are still waiting for a vaccine appointment.

The number is 03000 840004.

Public Health messages

As the vaccination programme continues it is essential that everyone continues to follow the rules and guidance to protect against transmission.

Continue to:

  • Clean surfaces
  • Wash your hands
  • Wear face coverings where necessary
  • This also applies to those who have already had the vaccine as they may still be able to become infected with Covid-19 and pass it on to others.
