FEW of us have the chance to meet our heroes in real life but children at a Rhos-on-Sea nursery got to do just that.

North Wales Police officers switched on the sirens and even handcuffed a teacher in the riot van cell during an educational visit to First Steps Day Nursery.

It formed part of a topic for the nursery’s foundation group of ages three and four called ‘people who help us’ in which children have learned about the role of police officers, solving classroom crime scenes including cookie thefts and footprint mysteries.

Rebecca Nicholson, managing director, said: “It was amazing for the children to meet the police officers. They have recently been solving crime scenes, catching a member of staff with biscuit crumbs on her top, making police hats and sniffer dog masks. They have all really enjoyed it.

“The officers kindly brought the riot van and fully prepared it to show the children around. One of the staff was even locked up in the prison cell.

“We have been trying to use our imagination as we can’t get out and this was just what the kids needed.”

Police posted a photo of the visit on the West Conwy Coastal Facebook page, adding: “PC Roscoe and PC Williams recently visited First Steps Day Nursery in Rhos-on-Sea.

“The children had been learning about ‘people who help us’ and we were delighted to visit and talk to the children about what we do.

“Thank you for asking us, it was a pleasure.”
