SAFETY advice has been issued to residents after several reports of lone women being followed on Rhos-on-Sea promenade.

North Wales Police's West Conwy Coastal team said residents should consider ways to make themselves safer after the force received a number of reports of women being followed while walking alone.

It comes after a report that a masked man followed a woman along the promenade on Tuesday, January 26.

Police said officers were carrying out regular patrols of the area following the incident.

The suspect was described as being about five foot and eight inches tall and of slight build, wearing a black mask which covered most of his face, a black hooded top, black jogging bottoms and lighter coloured trainers.

"Following on from reports of a male following lone females along the Rhos On Sea promenade. If anyone has any information please contact 101 quoting Z012308," police posted on the NWP West Conwy Coastal Facebook page.

"Street crime is often opportunistic, so making yourself less of a target, moving with purpose and being aware of your surroundings will go a long way to keeping you safe. Here's where you'll discover more tips on how to stay safe and feel more confident when out and about.

"Plan your route in advance. Carry a charged mobile phone and some cash, and tell someone where you're going.

"From the moment you step out onto the street in the morning, look assertive and act and walk with confidence. This will always make you appear in control and much less vulnerable.

"Using a mobile phone, whether making a call or texting, wearing a hood or listening to loud music, all affect your awareness of your surroundings.

"Try to avoid walking alone at night in places such as parks and side streets or any unfamiliar environment. If you do have to walk, stick to busy places where there is CCTV and good lighting."
