WORK to add new road designs that improve pedestrian safety to a busy crossing in Glan Conwy will take nearly three weeks.

Plans to restore the width of the path leading to the A470 zebra crossing and put signs and new road markings in place are hoped to address concerns over visibility and awareness raised by residents.

The work, proposed by the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency, will take place from Monday, February 22 to Friday, March 12.

It includes extending surfacing of the footway on the east side to the property known as ‘Benarth’, additional road markings including a high friction surfacing on the approaches, and localised kerbing works.

Conwy County Borough Council has placed temporary signs on the approaches to the crossing and manned traffic lights will be in place until the work is carried out.

A council spokesperson said: "Work to further enhance the zebra crossing will shortly commence on the A470 in Glan Conwy.

"Please avoid parking by the sections of road that the contractor will be working on.This will help us to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible.

"Pedestrian access along the A470 may be restricted at times but we will try to keep disruption to a minimum."
