MOTHER'S day is a celebration of mams, grandmothers, stepmams and mam-types but settling on a way to mark the occasion can be difficult, especially in lockdown.

Beamish Museum's popular Herron's Bakery is baking afternoon teas while it is closed during lockdown - including a Mother's Day deal - adding to its existing list of online treats.

With two afternoon tea choices stacked with old-fashioned favourites on the menu, you can bag yourself and your mam the delicious 1900s food fix you've been missing during lockdown.

The Northern Echo:

The food boxes include Beachish's famous crumbly gingerbread.

Delivery is available within a 15-mile radius of the County Durham site and, to top off the treat, it will be delivered in a Covid-secure way by a Beamish staff member in costume.

The Mother's Day selection includes two chocolate chip brownies, two plain scones with two pots of jam and clotted cream, two crumbly Beamish gingerbread squares and two coconut haystacks.

There is also two pink heart-shaped shortbread biscuits and two mini Victoria sponge cakes, made with buttercream and jam.

The Northern Echo:

Mother's Day is on Sunday, March 14.

But afternoon tea is still on the menu for those holding out for another occasion, with a second treat box including scones and Beamish's famous gingerbread also available.

You can order this as a gift and include a personalised message.
