FINAL year pupils at a Colwyn Bay primary school went online to share their personal experiences of the pandemic with Clwyd West MS Darren Millar.

Mr Millar made a virtual visit to Ysgol Pen-y-Bryn to meet year six pupils and hear more about how they have coped over the past 12 months.

He was told the children had completed an exercise writing letters to themselves explaining what had happened over the last year and imagining that they had received them before the pandemic started.

Mr Millar said: “It was moving to listen to the pupils as they described birthdays during lockdown, not being able to go on trips out or meet friends, and to hear about them losing loved ones.

“But I was also inspired by their incredible resilience and ability to cope. One even managed to have a fun holiday during the relaxation of restrictions in the summer.

“It was lovely to see all the children back in the classroom after months of them working from home and to have the opportunity to engage with them.

“It has been an extremely challenging year for all of our children, but hopefully more normal times are on the horizon for them.”

He added: “I thank all the staff at the school for all their efforts over the past 12 months, ensuring that their pupils continued to receive a good standard of education away from the classroom, whilst also focusing on their wellbeing.

“Ysgol Pen-y-Bryn is a lovely school and whilst I enjoyed my virtual visit, I can’t wait to return to the school for an in person visit as soon as restrictions allow.”
