A RETIRED community mental health nurse is taking to the skies to raise funds for Llandudno’s St David’s Hospice.

Bridget Lloyd has challenged herself to complete a skydive and wing walk to raise much needed funds for the hospice, which provides palliative care in North West Wales.

On Thursday May 6, Bridget, 60, from Bangor will be launched out of an aircraft, to enjoy a 20 minute free fall of 15,000ft to the ground.

As if one adrenaline fuelled activity was not enough, Bridget will take to the skies for the second time on the June 20, completing the ultimate aerial challenge of flying on the top wing of a biplane.

Bridget expressed her excitement, she said: “I’m really excited about doing the wing walk as I’ve wanted to do the challenge for a long time. I’m also doing a skydive which I’m really looking forward to.’’

Bridget is a valued member of the St David’s Hospice’s volunteering community, having volunteered for over five years at St David’s Hospice’s Hafan Menai Therapy Centre based in the grounds of Ysbyty Gwynedd.

She added: “I’ve always had an interest in hospice care and used to attend events at the day care.’’

“Since I’ve been volunteering, I have had two of my friends receive wonderful care from the Hospice and so I decided to take on challenges to raise some money so the Hospice can continue its care of people in the area.”

This year, it will cost more than £5 million to run the Hospice with just nine per cent of that figure coming from the Welsh Government and Local Health Board. The majority of this comes from community fundraising.

So far, Bridget has raised over £900 for the Hospice, can you help her reach her £1,000 target? If you would like to donate, please visit her Just Giving page: justgiving.com/fundraising/Bridget-Lloyd
