TOP sopranos will perform in a spectacular production featuring a Japanese garden on the stage of Rhyl Pavilion.

Madam Butterfly, a century-old tale of unrequited love, follows the traffic story of Cio Cio, a Japanese girl who naively falls in love with US naval officer Pinkerton, resulting in devastating consequences for her young life.

It will see acclaimed international sopranos Elena Dee, from South Korea, and Alyona Kistenyova, from Ukraine, take to the stage with highlights such as the melodic Humming Chorus, the moving aria One Fine Day and the unforgettable Love Duet.

The three-act Italian opera, presented by Senbla and the award-winning Ellen Kent Production, blends the trust and deceit of its tragic relationships with the fraught political context of 20th century US and Japan.

Rhyl Pavilion said: “Back by overwhelming public demand, this award-winning Opera returns in a new production with exquisite sets including a spectacular Japanese garden and fabulous costumes including antique wedding kimonos from Japan.

“One of the world’s most popular operas, Puccini’s Madama Butterfly tells the heart-breaking story of the beautiful young Japanese girl who falls in love with an American naval lieutenant – with dramatic results.”

Songs will be performed in Italian with English subtitles. Please not that some seats may have restricted views of the subtitles. Please check when booking tickets.
