A COLLEGE hosted its own version of Question Time in which students grilled representatives from the political parties ahead of the Senedd election.

Six parties accepted invites to the virtual event held by Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, which included students from Coleg Llandrillo in Rhos-on-Sea, where they answered questions on a wide range of topics that affect the college’s students.

This year is the first time that 16 and 17-year-olds are able to vote in the Senedd elections and the Student Union wanted to highlight that the decisions people make today will shape the future world we will live in, and wanted to encourage everyone to be part of these decisions.

Students were able to hear first-hand about the political parties’ manifestos and listen to what the regional representatives had to say about their plans for the region and Wales as a whole. The event was also an opportunity for students to use their collective voice to ask questions about their priorities. Student Union presidents used the opportunity to ask questions put forward by their fellow students on topics including employment, transport, blended learning, digital poverty, devolution, environmental matters and equal opportunities for women.

Grŵp chief executive officer Dafydd Evans, who helped students to host the event, said: “It was a privilege being part of the event which demonstrated the maturity of our Student Union Presidents; you were excellent. A very worthwhile event which demonstrated that giving young people the right to vote is the correct decision. You did Grŵp Llandrillo Menai proud.”
