As preparations are made to reopen more businesses to the public indoors, Gwynedd Council is urging residents to continue to adhere to the regulations to protect the county's communities.

The Welsh Government has confirmed that from 17 May, up to six people from six different households will be able to meet in regulated indoor venues, such as cafes and pubs.

Hospitality businesses have been preparing for this, but it is still key that we keep to the rules.

Councillor Gareth Griffith, Gwynedd Council's Cabinet Member for the Environment, said:

“We are very pleased that more businesses are able to open indoors - this comes as the rate of cases has dropped significantly across Wales. This is good news and gives us all hope.

“But it is so important to remember that Covid-19 has not disappeared and it is very important that we continue to take all possible steps to keep our communities safe.

"As we all stick to the clear rules and play our part we will help keep the infection levels low so that we can return to a more normal life soon.

"We want everyone to be able to enjoy the new arrangements, but to do so safely. ”

Gwynedd Council thanks the county's businesses for their work in helping to keep communities safe as they prepare to welcome more customers back following the easing of the lockdown.

Despite the easing of restrictions, Coronavirus remains a risk to all of us and so safety measures will be put in place by businesses such as cafes, restaurants and pubs. People from different households will be able to meet, but the Welsh Government guidelines on maintaining social distance and keeping 2 metres apart must be adhered to.

Councillor Gareth Thomas, Gwynedd Council's Cabinet Member for the Economy, said: “I would like to thank all Gwynedd businesses who have played their part in making sure their premises are safe for customers and staff. We understand that it continues to be a difficult period but the efforts of the business community is key to keeping people safe.

“As a Council, we continue to work with Gwynedd businesses and communities to support each other through the next period so that we safeguard the health of the people of Gwynedd along with supporting businesses and the local economy.

“The Council is here to support businesses so they can continue to trade safely. Our officers are working to ensure that businesses have access to all the latest information.”
