A WREXHAM Glyndwr University lecturer has been appointed to an expert group which sets the academic standards for Criminology.

Dr Sarah Dubberley, senior lecturer in Criminology and Criminal Justice at the university – the leading department of its kind in the country - has been appointed to the QAA Advisory Group for that Degree subject.

The QAA is the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, which sets the wide range of academic standards students must meet to gain their qualifications for each course.

Sarah’s appointment to the QAA Advisory Board for Criminology is the latest glowing recognition this department at the university has received within the last year, for a course which features high in national rankings for student satisfaction and teaching quality.

It is currently ranked first in the UK for Teaching Quality and Student Experience with an Overall Rating of first in Wales for the Criminology subject area in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021.

One of the aims of the QAA is to set and improve standards in Higher Education, ensuring a quality learning experience for students.

It defines the academic standards that can be expected of a graduate, in terms of what they might know, do and understand at the end of their studies, and describes the nature of the subject.

On her appointment, Sarah said: “I am very pleased to have been appointed to the panel and the further recognition this brings to the department.

“I’m very much looking forward to my work with the advisory group.”
