A POLICE officer was assaulted and a vehicle windscreen smashed during an incident in Colwyn Bay.

North Wales Police said the incidents were related to reports of disorder involving a group of men on Abergele Road in the early hours of Monday morning.

"Disappointing to report that an officer was assaulted whilst trying to do his job," police tweeted.

"A police vehicle is also off the road due to having it's windscreen smashed during the incident which happened in Colwyn Bay during the early hours of yesterday morning.

"Officers were responding to disorder on Abergele Road involving a number of males.

"Emergency services are committed to doing all that we can to serve the public. We can only effectively do our jobs if people work."

Officers on the NWP West Conwy Coastal Twitter page added: "Busy weekend with arrests made for offences inc. assaults, drunk and disorderly, domestic related assaults, drink drive and public order.

"Unfortunately an officer was assaulted and a police vehicle windscreen was smashed whilst officers were attending an incident."
