CONWY’s new mayor has said she wants to bring “hope, stability and a real sense of optimism” following the coronavirus pandemic.

Collette Ryan was elected as Mayor of Conwy and Constable of Conwy Castle on Monday, May 24.

Conwy county councillor Joan Vaughan Deputy has been appointed as deputy mayor.

“I feel so privileged to be able to work on behalf of the community that I have grown up in,” said Cllr Ryan.

“My goals and aspirations are many in my year as your Mayor, but one very important goal is to rebuild teamwork and trust between the community and the Town Council.

“I want to let the whole community know that I recognise the dreadful year that we all have been a part of, and I want to support both the local businesses and community as we come out of lockdown.”

The mayor said she is seeking to engage with young people in Conwy and will support St David’s Hospice and Llandudno Junction Foodbank during her time in the role.

“I have a deep empathy for what they have lost during the long months of Covid-19,” she said.

“I pledge here and now to do my very best for the community in bringing hope, stability, and a real sense of optimism to Conwy, Deganwy and Llandudno Junction as we find our way out of lockdown together.

“It is vital that Conwy Town Council continues to show compassion and commitment to the community, both in the business sector and to the residents who have been through such a dreadful time, unlike no other that we have ever experienced before at the very cruel hands of Covid-19.”
