LEAGUE leaders Lex were pegged back in a thrilling match at Llanrwst in the T20 Evening League.

Tom Thornton (45)and Matty Jones (47) put on 85 in just nine overs but Llanrwst captain Theo Williams made the breakthrough and when they both fell in quick succession the innings stalled. Two wickets from Alwyn Williams further slowed the scoring and the innings ended on 132/7. Aron Hughes (49) and Matt Lloyd (26) laid a good foundation, but six were still needed off the last over. A four from Iestyn Williams tied the scores and a scurried single won the game with the last ball.

Abergele started the reply poorly by losing Luke Sellers in the first over but tried to rally, putting together a second wicket partnership of 45 runs but then steadily lost wickets despite Sam Sebin top scoring with 32. Hugh Kelly (3/23) and tight bowling by Chris Dawson (1/13) meant that Gele could not quite reach their target, finishing on 106/7.

Despite Luke Russell bowling his brother in the 4th over, opening batsmen Ross Stevens batted throughout the innings to retire on 53 not out. A couple of wickets fell to Darren Dentith’s slow teasers, but a fine four from Chris Jones in the 17th over saw Police to their target.
