A DAY and residential special school has made an uplifting video in the hope of raising awareness around visible and invisible disabilities.

Children from Ysgol Y Gogarth, on Nant-Y-Gamar Road in Llandudno, feature in the video with the soundtrack This is me by' The Greatest Showman'.

It is hoped the video will also raise some much needed funds for the Parents, Staff and Friends Association (PSFA).

Lisa Kovacs, deputy headteacher, said: "This project was important for our school.

"We wanted to celebrate our school's diversity and uniqueness and share this with our wider community.

"This has been a fantastic way to end the school year and we have been overwhelmed and very grateful by the response and support."

Lee Power, teacher, said: "Awareness around visible and invisible disabilities has never been better, but it’s important not to underestimate the challenges that these children have faced and will face in their future.

"Until it is normalised to listen to and treat all people with dignity and respect, our society will not be truly accessible for everyone."

The school currently caters for about 250 pupils between the ages of three and 19.

Pupils attending the school are either fully statemented or in the process of being statemented and have a wide spectrum of additional learning needs.

Hannah Midgley-Davies, ICT Support, said: "We have been busy organising this project for the last couple of months.

"Staff and Pupils have been amazing at practicing their Makaton signing and capturing those special moments around school.

"This project has been a true celebration of our pupils and staff."
