A PUPIL from Deganwy met the makers of The Sooty Show to mark its 73rd anniversary.

15-year-old Emily Penman was joined by Brenda Longman, the voice of Soo, and Stuart McCarthy, production designer, to discuss their role in the show upon its birthday on Monday.

The virtual interview, organised by not-for-profit STEM organisation MajorTim.space, covered topics including the history of the show and how it started, its present make-up and how it might change to attract audiences in the future.

Emily, a youth ambassador for MajorTim.space who attends Ysgol John Bright, was joined by fellow ambassador Tom Jones as they asked their burning questions.

Yesteryears Toy Shop in Conwy donated a Sooty puppet for the interview, which can be watched here.

Amelia Jane Piper, founder of MajorTim.space, which organised the meeting, said: "We decided to arrange an interview with the Sooty Show because of its fascinating history of being the longest running children's television show in the world.

“Both Tom and Emily have grown up watching the Sooty Show and thoroughly enjoyed the interview while developing their public speaking skills.”
