A FORMER Llandudno FC youth player has signed for Salford City.

Kyle Cooper will join the EFL League 2 club on a two-year deal following a successful trial this month.

The 16-year-old defender, who has also played for Tranmere Rovers FC at academy level, went to Salford on Friday morning to sign his professional contract.

Salford City will compete in its third season in the English fourth tier this season under manager Graham Alexander.

The club recently added Gary Sampson to its youth coaching set-up after the 38-year-old left Manchester United this year.

Salford City has strong links to the Red Devils, having been subject to a takeover by former United players Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt in 2014.

In a social media statement, Llandudno FC said: “Following a successful trial, the captain of our treble winning team, Kyle Cooper has been offered and has accepted a two-year deal at the very ambitious League 2 Club, Salford City FC.

“Particularly exciting for Kyle as he is a Manchester United fan, now his bosses will be the famous ‘Class of 92’.

“Yet another very proud moment for us and more evidence of the talent and hard work put in over the past few years by the team.

“Kyle is pictured below playing for our team and also in his Salford City Kit during his recent trial.

“Congratulations Kyle and We all wish you the very best of luck on your journey.”
