The president of the Welsh division of the Britain in Bloom competition recently enjoyed his adjudication tour of Colwyn Bay.

Accompanied by members of the Colwyn in Bloom committee, Jim Goodwin of Wales in Bloom visited key areas in Old Colwyn, Rhos-on-Sea and Colwyn Bay.

He met a number of volunteers en route and was advised of the committee’s plans for future activities in the area.

Although giving nothing away, Mr Goodwin expressed his delight at the town’s tour and was complimentary about many of the sites he had visited.

Ingrid Lewis, chair of Colwyn in Bloom, said: “The tour went incredibly well and without a single mishap en route.

“Colwyn Bay has an excellent record of success in the competition, having won the Best Large Town award in the Wales in Bloom competition on 18 previous occasions.

“The town is also a Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) gold medal winner when they represented Wales in the Britain in Bloom competition in 2018.

“Whatever the outcome of this year’s competition, grateful thanks must go to the Colwyn in Bloom committee, Conwy County Borough Council, Bay of Colwyn Town Council, and the vast number of volunteer groups, individuals and associations.

"All the unsung heroes who, despite COVID-19 restrictions, have safely done so much to help ensure that the Bay continues to look its best throughout the year for the local community and business community to enjoy.”

Wales in Bloom is a national campaign set up to embrace the country's beauty and promote environmentally friendly practices.

The winners of Wales in Bloom are often nominated for Britain in Bloom, and join finalists from other communities across the country.

The results of this year’s Wales in Bloom competition will be announced in September.
