PARALYMPIAN John Stubbs is one of the flagbearers for Team GB in Tokyo.

John, who trains at Rhyl Leisure, features in today's ceremony alongside Ellie Simmonds.

Described as Britain's most successful archer, the MBE holder is one of four archers competing in Tokyo.

Having already won Gold at Bejing 2008, and a silver medal eight years later in Rio de Janeiro, the 56-year-old is aiming high this year with his sights set on gold.

John said: “To go to a Paralympic games at any age is no mean feat, but when you get to my age you might think it’s beyond what you’re able to do, but I’d like to prove that age is no barrier, especially in disability sport, you just have to put your mind to it.

“Training at Rhyl has definitely helped me get ready for the Paralympic games, it’s a great site and the staff are really helpful too. I’m really looking forward to getting back into competing after the covid-19 break, bringing back a medal of any description would be huge, but I’m aiming for gold.”

Jamie Groves, managing director of Denbighshire Leisure Ltd, said: “It’s a pleasure to have John train at Rhyl Leisure. Everyone in the team at Denbighshire Leisure is behind him and we are all looking forward to watching him progress in Tokyo.

"We are delighted that John has enjoyed training at Rhyl and we pride ourselves on the quality of the facilities available at our centres across the county.

“On behalf of the whole company, I’d like to wish John and the whole of the British team competing in Tokyo, the very best of luck.”
