A COLWYN Bay care home has been voted among the top 20 in Wales for the fourth successive year.

Chaseley House Residential Care Home in Rhos-on-Sea was one of seven Conwy and Denbighshire homes to make the 2021 list, compiled by carehome.co.uk.

Mark Owen has owned the home with wife Karen since 1999, and said the award is down to the quality care delivered by his dedicated team, especially given the tribulations thrown up by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said: “That we’ve still achieved this during COVID makes it probably a little more special, but they’re all special, because it means we're doing something right.

“It’s been difficult, but a lot of it is purely down to good practice, which was always in place, not just since COVID.

“I think it’s the fact that we’ve been able to maintain the standards that enable us to get the further reviews from the relatives (of Chaseley House’s patients), even during COVID.

“Until recently, the relatives have not been allowed to see their loved ones, but even despite that, it’s not taken them away from leaving a five star review.”

Based on reviews posted on carehome.co.uk in the last two years, Chaseley House has a review score of 9.9 out of ten and an average rating of 4.9 out of five.

All of the 49 reviews for the home have also rated it ‘excellent’ and said they are ‘extremely likely’ to recommend it.

Mark added: “It’s not for me; it’s for the home and the girls. It’s a by-product of what we’ve done in the past. It means we’re doing something right.

“That can then transmit into the community, because the community reads about it and they will think: ‘That must be a half-decent home; if I’m looking for a place for anybody, that will be top of the list'.

“My wife’s the leader at the front; she’s a qualified nurse. It’s not simple, but the management of it is simple, because the systems are all in place.”
