AN art exhibition is currently being held at a church in Colwyn Bay, sharing work created by people from the town.

The display, entitled ‘I Feel Good’, is open until Sunday, August 29 at Llanelian Church, which has often also included an art exhibition as part of its annual spring fair.

Admission is free, though donations will be gratefully accepted, with doors opening at noon every day this week.

Jane Beckerman, who helped organise the event, said: “The idea came from a desire to open the church up again after the long months of lockdown, which included a church lockdown, too.

“We wanted to put on a display of local artists’ work to make the church come alive again, to invite people to come back inside, and to encourage local artists and craftspeople to think about the church as somewhere they could display their work.

“Llanelian Church has included an art exhibition in its spring fair for years, and through this we met Gwenda Davies, who has curated the breath-taking display of work on show in the church this week.

“With the help of Carol Downes and Joan Blackwood, she has put on display artwork of all kinds; painting, textiles, a Welsh dragon of willow wands, sculpture, paper work, knitted work, pottery, batik and beadwork.

“After looking at the work on display, here it is obvious that there are many very talented artists in the Llanelian area - all of whom have been very busy during lockdown.”

Jane and the other organisers of this week’s exhibition also hope to make regional artwork part of the church life during the winter, and encourage people to get in touch if they would like their work on display.
