THE official re-opening of a museum has been held.

Sam Rowlands, MS for North Wales, paid a visit to the newly refurbished and reopened Llandudno Museum on Gloddaeth Street.

He said: “The Llandudno Museum has undergone a significant refurbishment and I was delighted to be given the opportunity to have a look round.

“It is full of history and tells the fascinating story of Llandudno from prehistoric times through to the present day. This includes a little known fact that the town hosted the 1865 and 1866 Olympic Festivals, forerunners of the modern day Olympics

“There is something there for everyone and it even has an exhibition displaying work by local schools which reflects upon the Covid-19 lockdown.

“I am delighted to see Llandudno Museum open again as it provides another excellent indoor tourist attraction for the area where we already have the Home Front Experience, Penderyn Whiskey’s distillery and the Boathouse Climbing Centre."

The refurbishment has been supported by Mostyn Estates, the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Garfield Weston Foundation, the Welsh Government, Conwy County Borough Council, Llandudno Town Council and RWE who run the Gwynt y Mor offshore windfarm.

The museum also includes a new garden space at the rear of the building, maintained by volunteers from local rehabilitation organisation CAIS.
