FURTHER changes are being made to the Black Cat roundabout.

The alterations will be made to help prevent vehicles from using the wrong lane when they wish to travel Southbound towards Glan Conwy via the A470. They will also help prevent "driver confusion" and improve road safety.

The work will be conducted during the Winter.

Janet Finch-Saunders, MS for Aberconwy, made representations to the Welsh Government about the issue.

She received a letter from Lee Waters, Wales' deputy minister for Climate Change, in response stating: "As part of the post-construction scheme evaluation we have reviewed the signing and road markings at this location, and we have also undertaken a CCTV survey to establish driver behaviour issues.

"We have a package of measures that will address the issues raised, including amending some of the markings and sign positions on the roundabout.

"This will be carried out shortly on site.”

Ms Saunders said: "Following representation made to the Welsh Government, I am delighted that the signage and road markings on the approach to the roundabout will be reviewed so as to help prevent vehicles from using the wrong lane when they wish to travel southbound toward Glan Conwy.

“This is a crucial commitment that will improve road safety by ensuring that driver confusion is minimised, in turn allowing the traffic to flow more safely. Ultimately, this move should also benefit the environment and public health, as less particulate matter will be emitted from exhausts during waiting periods for driver correction."

A Welsh Government spokesperson told the Pioneer: "Work to consolidate existing signage and road markings as well as additional designated lane signage will be undertaken during the Winter period.”
